Meet Dr. Julie B. Hawley 


 

 

Dr. Julie Baird Hawley was born in Valentines, VA. Her parents are Nelson and Rita Baird of Valentines, VA. She is married to Logan Hawley, of Durham, NC; They have two daughters, Lily and Ella, and a son, Luke, born in June 2022. They currently reside in Henrico, NC. 

Dr. Hawley graduated as valedictorian from Brunswick Academy in 2005. She attended the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, VA. While there, she participated in many volunteer activities at the University and in the surrounding community, including tutoring for children in the local school system and work at a dental clinic for children. Dr. Hawley graduated in 2009 with a bachelors degree in both Economics and Biology.

 In 2009, Dr. Hawley moved to Richmond, VA to attend Virginia Commonwealth University School of Dentistry on the Medical College of Virginia campus. While attending dental school, Dr. Hawley volunteered her time in many different service capacities. She participated in several Mission of Mercy, or MOM, projects to provide free dental care to those in need. Dr. Hawley also gave her time to provide free dental care to children during “Give Kids a Smile Day” events. As a senior student, she was able to contribute to the education of sophomore students as a teacher’s aide. Upon graduation with a degree in Doctor of Dental Surgery in May 2013, Dr. Hawley received an award of recognition from the dental school faculty for “clinical efficiency, patient management skills, and steadfast pursuit of clinical excellence.” She also was awarded the American Association of Endodontists Student Achievement Award for above average skills in the field of endodontics (root canals.)

 Dr. Hawley is a member of the American Dental Association and the Virginia Dental Association. She has served as the president for the Southside Dental Society and is an active committee member with the VA Dental Association. She continues to volunteer her time and skills at MOM projects, RAM (remote area medical) clinics and Give Kids a Smile events.

 Dr. Hawley and her husband are active members of Pleasant Hill Christian Church in Gasburg, VA. They are passionate about fitness and compete in races around the area, including their favorite, the “Brickyard 5-miler” in Lawrenceville, VA that the Rotary Club uses to fund college scholarships for local children. Dr. Hawley is a member of the Emporia Rotary Club and values “Service above Self.” 

Dr. Hawley loves practicing in Southside Virginia, where she considers “home.” She feels that a small town is the perfect atmosphere to foster caring relationships with patients, and she looks forward to meeting you and meeting all of your oral health needs with a gentle and caring manner.
